Police and forces succeeded in killing 23 militants during three winter months in Kashmir valley resulting in the minimizing of militant activities ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Police sources told Kashmir Life that as many as 23 militants have been killed in the first three months of the current year.
“At a time when militant activities were increasing our security forces and the police crushed their activities by killing 23 of their most active members including some wanted commanders,” they said adding “After a long such number of militants was killed in just three months in Kashmir.”
Giving details about the killed militants sources said that 8 militants were killed in kupwara area only, 4 in Sopore, 2 in Handwara, 2 in Budgam, 3 in Tral Awantipora area, 1 in Pulwama, 2 in Shopian and 1 militant was killed in Islamabad district of the valley during the last three months.
Besides this, more than 24 people were arrested by security and police who were either indulged in militant activities or working as Upper Ground Workers (UGW) of militants.
Police sources said that militant activities are being closely monitored as always but special care is being taken nowadays as the Lok Sabha elections are round the corner.
However, a civilian, Farhat Ahmad Dar was also killed recently by police in Naidkhai triggering massive protests in the Bandipora district. Authorities have already announced a probe into the killing.
