ISLAMABAD: The number of polio infections has increased, with the nation reporting three new cases on Monday, bringing the total to 59 so far this year.
In Dera Ismail Khan, Karachi, and Kashmore, the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication confirmed the identification of one case of poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) each, according to an official.
“The children’s samples were genetically linked to the same WPV1 virus genetic cluster, according to the genetic sequencing of the samples,” the official stated.
Eight polio cases have been reported thus far in D.I. Khan, one of the seven districts in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that are endemic for the disease.
26 cases from Balochistan, 16 from KP, 15 from Sindh, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad make up the 59 cases that have been documented thus far this year.
Every year, the Pakistan Polio Program organizes many large immunization campaigns, bringing the vaccine right to kids’ homes.
Furthermore, health facilities provide free vaccines against 12 pediatric diseases as part of the Expanded Programme on Immunization.
The goal of the upcoming mass vaccination campaign is to vaccinate over 44 million youngsters by the middle of December. It is imperative that parents make sure all of their children under the age of five are vaccinated against polio in light of the current outbreak.
