ISLAMABAD: The PTI said the call for civil obedience will not be withdrawn as a preamble to negotiations, but it has agreed to meet with the government-appointed committee for talks.
In a video message released on Sunday, Sheikh Waqqas Akram, the media secretary for the PTI, stated that only Imran Khan, the jailed party founder, has the authority to revoke the civil disobedience.
The administration has condemned the civil disobedience, which is scheduled to begin on Sunday.
Barrister Aqeel, the PM’s adviser, issued a warning last week that the “dangling sword of civil disobedience” cannot be used during negotiations.
However, Mr. Akram stated that following discussions on Monday, the PTI officials will meet with their imprisoned founder to update him on the outcome.
Regarding today’s meeting, Mr. Akram stated, “Those nominated by both sides will come to the table and lay down their points.”
The PTI will be able to “assess whether the government is truly serious about resolving our issues and meeting Imran Khan’s demands” following the meeting, he claimed.
Following the discussions, the party will “demand to meet Imran Khan” in order to inform him of the conclusion of the meeting.
Mr. Akram stated that unless the party rescinds the call for civil disobedience, “[W]hatever Imran Khan directs about the civil disobedience movement, we will implement it.”
Mr. Khan threatened last week that if his requests weren’t fulfilled, the first stage of the civil disobedience movement, in which Pakistanis living abroad would be encouraged to cease sending money home, would begin on December 22.
He had established two goals for the negotiations: a judicial investigation into the May 9 violence and the November 24 rally, and the release of PTI employees and supporters from jail.
Faisal Chaudhry, the leader of the PTI, added that Mr. Khan had requested that the party leadership hold off on launching the campaign until Sunday.
Alliance of opposition
Separately, sources claim that Mr. Khan has given Barrister Saif the task of bringing the opposition parties together. The imprisoned PTI founder gave Mr. Saif instructions to speed up talks with opposition figures and bring them together under the leadership of Ali Amin Gandapur, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to sources, Mr. Saif has therefore been in touch with a number of important opposition figures.
Later this week, the KP Chief Minister’s House is anticipated to host a significant gathering that would include opposition parties.
Pir Pagara and Zulfiqar Mirza, two Grand Democratic partnership leaders, are anticipated to meet with Mr. Saif this week to talk about the partnership.
The leaders of other significant parties, like as Jamaat-i-Islami and JUI-F, are also being invited by the PTI to the meeting.
