QUETTA / GWADAR: According to officials, five private security guards were slain by militants on Tuesday while they were on the building site of a dam in the Panjgur area of Makran division.
The incident happened early on Tuesday, according to a spokesman for the Balochistani government.
The banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack late Tuesday evening.
According to officials, the fatalities were employed by the contractor to provide security at the dam site in the Promom neighborhood of Panjgur.
Dawn was informed by a top police official that the attackers came at the scene on motorcycles and were armed with automatic firearms.
According to the police officer, “more than a dozen armed men attacked the dam site where the victims were looking after the equipment and machinery.” The victims momentarily returned fire, but they were outnumbered.
Shahid Rind, a spokesman for the Balochistani government, claimed that all five of the victims were locals.
According to him, the bodies and two injured were taken to the Panjgur district hospital by security personnel. According to reports, the injured are in stable condition.
According to accounts, the assailants also removed the security guards’ firearms from their posts at the attack location. Officials haven’t verified the reports, though.
Zahir Ali, Aminullah, Nawaz Ali, Hussain Ali Shah, and Abdul Ghafoor were the five victims, and Muhammad Safa and Amjad Ali were among the injured.
According to security officials, a search for the attackers was in progress and an inquiry had been launched.
Sending condolences
Officials from the administration of Balochistan, including the president and prime minister, have denounced the attack and promised to prosecute the militants responsible.
The event has been described as “condemnable and unforgivable” by Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail of Balochistan.
They said that terrorists were carrying out the plans of hostile groups opposed to peace and progress.
The governor claimed that terrorists would “never succeed in their nefarious purposes” and that they were cowards who targeted innocent people, adding that the enemy was annoyed with Balochistan’s calm and progress.
“Unjust bloodshed must be held accountable, and terrorists will not be spared,” CM Bugti declared in a statement.
He wished the injured people a quick recovery and offered his condolences to the relatives of the victims.
