GUJAR KHAN: The presumed murderer of a Pakpattan-based journalist, whose disfigured corpse was discovered on March 11 in the steep terrain of Tarraki, has finally been apprehended by Sohawa police.
The body was recognized as that of Tahira Nosheen, a journalist for a nearby Urdu newspaper, on April 17 thanks to the use of her fingerprints.
The woman’s former second husband allegedly shot and stabbed her, splattering acid on her face in an attempt to erase her identity, according to police investigations.
The Punjab police have classified it as one of the most urgent cases, according to Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi Babar Sarfraz Alpa, who spoke with Dawn.
Tawakal Hussain, the ex-husband of the journalist, was called to assist with investigations, but he fled and was later labeled a proclaimed offender, according to Subdivisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sohawa Sajid Gondal. According to Mr. Gondal, the suspect was located while traveling from Lahore to the Tarraki neighborhood of Jhelum.
As per the SDPO, the suspect admitted to killing Nosheen while driving a car from Rawalpindi to Lahore during the interrogation.
The suspect informed the police that after turning off their cell phones and heading up the mountainous terrain on the GT Road, he shot her dead with a revolver and splashed acid in her face as he crossed the city of Gujar Khan.
The deceased’s fingerprints were obtained prior to her burial, according to the police. This allowed the Nadra record to reveal her identify.
Dawn was informed by Sohawa’s SHO, Muhammad Imran, that Nosheen had grown estranged from her second husband during the course of the investigations, as he had been looking for her home and the farmland in Pakpattan that she had inherited from her late father.
When he sold the property, he had been pleading with her to allow him to purchase a home in Lahore. She had also filed for a divorce from him in the family court.
The suspect was the target of a complaint the woman filed with the FIA cybercrime wing because she had shared her offensive photos with her friends.
Later, the suspect persuaded her to travel with him to Lahore in exchange for him deleting the photos. On the other hand, the SHO claimed that he killed her on March 9 while traveling to Lahore.
According to the SHO, the murder weapon had also been found by the police. A judge placed the suspect on judicial remand on Monday.
