KABUL: Rescuers were delayed by snow and restricted roads, but on Tuesday they made it to the isolated region where a landslide had buried scores of individuals in eastern Afghanistan, according to a provincial official.
At least twenty-five people were killed as debris, snow, and earth tore through the hilly province of Nuristan’s village of Nakre over the course of Sunday’s overnight snowfall.
“Today there are military equipment, but there were no facilities yesterday,” stated Jamiullah Hashimi, the province head of information and culture. “The search and rescue mission may intensify. The terrain is mountainous and the falling rocks are enormous, which is the largest issue, he said.
Pictures on the internet showed scores of guys excavating stacked earth and removing rocks with their bare hands while standing between enormous fallen boulders. A spokeswoman for the ministry, Janan Sayeq, said that medical teams and other supplies had been delivered to the region by his department, the public works ministry, and NGOs.
