LAHORE: To handle complaints against bureaucrats in a fair and impartial way, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) established an independent complaint cell under the chief secretary’s supervision at the Civil Secretariat.
On Tuesday, Sohail Nasir, the Deputy Chairman of the NAB, declared that the bureau would not personally call bureaucrats who were the subject of complaints.
“To address such concerns in a fair and impartial manner, an independent complaint cell has been created under the supervision of the chief secretary,” he continued.
Nasir noted that the economy was close to imploding and that the bureau’s main goal would be to give the business community an environment that is conducive to doing business. The NAB chairman had also gone to chambers of commerce in order to get the support and cooperation of the business community.
Speaking at a ceremony on Tuesday to distribute checks totaling Rs1.67 billion to those impacted by the Pak Arab Housing scandal, Mr. Nasir reaffirmed that the NAB’s main priority was any case involving public corruption.
He made sure that each NAB respondent was treated with dignity. “Any suspicion of dishonesty will no longer be accepted. “Any anonymous complaint will not result in any kind of action from NAB,” he continued.
Amjad Majeed Aulakh, the director general of NAB Lahore, reported that over the previous six months, the bureau has disbursed Rs7.5 billion to victims of different schemes. He stated that since its founding, NAB Lahore has recovered more than Rs35 billion and achieved the largest plea agreement in the Eden Scam, worth Rs16 billion, of which Rs7 billion has been distributed to the affected parties.
