PESHAWAR: The administration of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has insisted on allowing a group of medical professionals from the region to conduct a medical examination on PTI leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi in order to ascertain the cause of his wounds.
According to a report filed by the deputy superintendent of Adiala Jail, where Mr. Elahi is being held, on March 17, the PTI leader collapsed in the restroom of his cell and only received minor injuries.
According to the report provided to an anti-corruption court, prison physicians urged the former chief minister of Punjab not to travel for two weeks.
Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, the spokesperson for the KP government, stated in a statement released on Sunday that the investigation would ascertain if the PTI was subjected to torture by jail officials or suffered injuries as a result of falling in a restroom.
Mr. Saif, who serves as the chief minister of KP’s communications advisor, insisted that the Punjab government grant the team access to Mr. Elahi.
He stated that the way the Punjab government was treating the senior PTI politician was concerning and should be a source of “serious concern” for the party’s leadership and members.
“We aim to ascertain the causes of the injured leader’s injuries through KP physicians,” he declared.
The security of PTI founding chairman Imran Khan and other party leaders within the jail, as well as Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s torture of political opponents, are “serious concerns” for the party.
He informed CM Maryam that she would face legal action if it was shown that Mr. Elahi had been tortured.
The UN Convention against Torture, which states that it is illegal to subject someone to physical, mental, or emotional torture, would hold the CM accountable.
Mr. Saif also stated that PTI will take legal action if KP doctors were denied access to examine Mr. Elahi.
He said that meetings with inmates have been prohibited by the Punjab government under the guise of security, which is against international law.
