RAWALPINDI: Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa will chair a meeting at Corps Headquarters, Lahore today.
According to the Inter Services Public Relations, the army chief departed from Rawalpindi earlier to head to Lahore to chair the meeting on security issues following the Lahore blast.
Around 26 people, including nine policemen, were martyred and more than 50 injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up near Lahore’s Ferozepur Road on Monday afternoon.
Initial investigations have revealed that the bomber had help from two facilitators who accompanied him to the site of the incident.
Lt Gen Sadiq Ali is the commander of the Pakistan Army’s IV Corps, which is headquartered in Lahore.
Less than 10 days ago, the army announced the launch of a new military operation in Khyber Agency.
ISPR DG Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, addressing a press conference, had informed that the follow-up operation, Khyber-IV, has been launched in Khyber Agency’s Rajgal Valley.
The DG ISPR informed that the valley, next to the Afghan border, is being used by Daesh and other local militant groups.
The army spokesperson had also given a country-wide breakdown of the operations undertaken as part of Operation Raddul Fasaad, launched in February this year, stating that the security situation of the country has improved as a result.
