Hand grenades stored in Jamshoro Police Station’s evidence lockup detonated and caused a large explosion on Wednesday, leaving five policemen and one suspect injured, police said.
Old hand grenades that were kept in the warehouse and unintentionally exploded in the intense heat were the cause of the explosion, according to Deputy Inspector General Tariq Razzak Dharejo.
He declared, “We have four injured officers who are using respirators.” “Two of them are slightly worse off, so they are being treated at Aga Khan [Hospital].”
The DIG said, “We had kept hand grenades which exploded due to the heat,” in an interview with Geo News. “There was no terrorist act here.”
Tariq Nawaz, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Jamshoro, reports that two of the injured were critically injured and taken to Civil Hospital in Hyderabad.
According to him, the explosion caused significant damage to the police station, destroying vehicles including motorcycles and rickshaws as well as tearing apart walls.
After arriving at the Jamshoro Police Station, DIG Dharejo and SSP Nawaz took the injured staff to Civil Hospital Hyderabad.
Head constable Muhammad Bux, ASIs Rasool Bux and Ghulam Moiuddin, police constables Irshad and Ali Abdul Taif, and a suspect named Jamshed—who was being held in lockup at the time of the explosion—were among the injured.
The explosion completely destroyed the cars that were parked inside the police station, including rickshaws, motorcycles, and scooters.
SSP Nawaz stated that the bomb disposal team collected evidence, locked the police station, and collected particulates.
DIG Hyderabad and SSP Nawaz were instructed by Sindh Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon to offer all resources for the suspect’s and the injured police officers’ medical care.
IGP Sindh and DIG Hyderabad also briefed Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hussain Lanjar on the event.
DIG Dharejo briefed Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on the explosion when he arrived in Hyderabad.
He and the Sindh health secretary were instructed by the chief minister to give the injured police officials access to all medical care.
