Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front on Saturday said its Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, who has been admitted at SK Institute of Medical Sciences here, is suffering from “severe infection in his right arm and high fever.”
“On October 21, Yasin Sahib was taken to a diagnostic center for a CT scan regarding a 7.7 mm stone in his left upper ureter. He was given some injection in his right arm that caused swelling, leaving him in severe pain. After the CT scan, he was shifted back to Central Jail Srinagar but the pain in his right arm and swelling started to enhance fast. For the entire night, he suffered from high pain and fever but was not provided with any medical remedy till the next day. After many complaints and protests by his family and friends, the government authorities agreed to shift him to a hospital and he was first taken to Khyber Hospital where doctors recommended to urgently shift him to SKIMS Soura,” a JKLF spokesperson said in a statement.
“He was rushed to SKIMS where a team of doctors immediately admitted him to the ICU and started treating his arm that was in severe pain due to swelling and infection. For the entire night, all senior and junior doctors worked hard to save his right arm and managed to reduce the swelling to some extent. Doctors have still not ruled out that his right arm is out of danger, though pain has lessened to an extent. High inflammation in his arm is still a cause of worry. His fever is also constantly varying and according to doctors may remain so till the infection goes,” the spokesperson said.
“We hail the efforts of doctors at SKIMS who have left no stone unturned to save Yasin sahib’s arm and life. We appeal people of Jammu and Kashmir to keep praying for Yasin sahib’s speedy recovery and good health,” he said.
The spokesperson said the JKLF chairman was arrested by police on July 8 “in an unwell condition.”
“Even at the time of his arrest, he was taking high antibiotics but instead of providing him a healthy environment, the authorities revengefully placed him in solitary confinement with virtually no medical facilities available. On July 30, he was shifted to Central Jail Srinagar and ban on his visitors remained unchanged and so did the denial of proper medical care to him,” he said.
The spokesperson said on August 30, Malik was shifted to JIC Humhama “but his disconnect from the rest of the world continued.”
“From JIC, he was shifted to Humhama Police Mess but on September 19 was again shifted to JIC Humhama and placed under solitary confinement in a cell. His health considerably deteriorated in the cell and doctors in writing recommended to authorities to keep him at some better place as he is facing grave medical problems. Recent medical tests of JKLF chairman taken at a private hospital have shown a 7.7 mm stone obstructing the left upper ureter and tests regarding his heart were also not satisfactory after which he was again shifted to Central Jail Srinagar on October 9,” the spokesperson said. “As recommended by doctors on October 21, he was taken for CT scan where he suffered an abscess attack in his right arm.”
Meanwhile, incarcerated Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed concern over “deterioration” in health of JKLF chairman and prayed for his immediate recovery and good health.
The High Court Bar Association also expressed concern over the health condition of Yasin Malik. “He has been under custody since July 9 and on account of having undergone various surgeries in the past, needed constant medical care which was denied to him by the jail authorities, and as a result of which his health deteriorated, forcing the authorities to take him to SKIMS Soura, Srinagar, for necessary treatment,” HCBA general secretary Bashir Sidiq said in a statement.
Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir National Front Nayeem Khan has also expressed serious concern over the “deteriorating health” of Malik.
