PALM BEACH: As his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris organized a rally in Washington to remind voters of the violent assault on the US Capitol by Trump’s supporters, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump falsely claimed that Democrats had orchestrated a “coup” to force President Joe Biden to withdraw his reelection bid.
Trump claimed that Harris would be too dangerous to be president during an event held at his Florida estate one week prior to the election on November 5. He cited the increased immigration and foreign wars that have taken place during her time as vice president.
His charge that Democrats had unfairly disqualified Biden brought to mind Trump’s fabrications that he had lost the 2020 election as a result of fraud.
“The United States presidency was stolen by them.” Whatever you want, you may call it a coup. However, they took it,” he informed fans. “It was wrong the way they took that away from him.” After weeks of pressure from fellow Democrats who feared he was too elderly for a rematch with Trump, 78, Biden, 81, decided to drop out of the race in July.
Harris is scheduled to conduct a rally later today at the Ellipse, a park close to the White House where Trump called for followers to march to the US Capitol and “fight like hell” on January 6, 2021, as lawmakers certified his defeat. One policeman who protected the Capitol died the next day, while four others perished in the unrest that followed. Trump has stated that he would pardon the more than 1,500 participants who have been accused of crimes if he is re-elected.
