RAWALPINDI: Following the airport’s inauguration on Monday, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight is scheduled to land at Gwadar International Airport, becoming the first commercial aircraft to do so.
The New Gwadar International Airport will open for business today, according to a Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) spokesman.
Flight PK-503 from Karachi to Gwadar is scheduled to land in the morning, according to a PIA spokeswoman.
The flight is scheduled to depart at 9:20 a.m., according to the flight schedule posted on the Jinnah International Airport website in Karachi.
The first trip will include passengers as well as senior executives from the aviation section.
When the plane lands, the water bowsers will give it the traditional water salute.
The first flight will be celebrated with a brief ceremony at the new airport, where passengers are scheduled to be greeted by Defense and Aviation Minister Khawaja Asif.
Airports Security Force DG Major General Adnan Asif Jah Shad, Civil Aviation Authority DG Nadir Shafi Dar, PAA DG Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed, Balochistan Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, and Aviation Division Secretary Ahson Ali Mangi will also be present at the ceremony.
During Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang’s October visit to Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif officially opened the new airport.
