Three individuals, including two children, were trapped inside a 100-foot-deep hole at a residential building near Fawara Chowk in Garden on Sunday. They died, probably from toxic chemicals and a lack of oxygen, according to authorities.
Deputy Inspector General of South-Zone (DIG-South) Syed Asad Raza told Dawn.com that the kids were playing near the well when they fell into it.
According to the DIG, the kids were playing next to the well when the cover shattered, and they “most likely” died from breathing in harmful fumes.
He stated that the absence of oxygen within the well could be another likely cause of the children’s deaths.
A bystander entered the well to try to save the kids, but he perished as well, according to the police officer.
The DIG South disclosed that Sunny Builders had excavated a well that was 100 feet deep within their housing project. Furthermore, the South police chief instructed Garden police to file criminal charges against the residential building’s owners and builders.
Hassaan Khan, a representative of the Sindh Government’s Rescue-1122 team, reported that he had learned of two children—Badar Sohaib, 8, and Talha Asif, 10—who had fallen into the well at the Garden East apartment building.
He claimed that as soon as they got word, a rescue squad raced to the location.
Khan stated, “The rescue operation lasted for five hours,” and mentioned that they had challenges due to the poisonous fumes inside the well.
An official from the rescue agency confirmed that all three remains had been found.
He claimed that the bystander who tried to assist the kids was taken unconscious from the well and later declared dead at the Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital in Karachi.
Three bodies were received by the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) to complete their legal requirements, according to police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed.
The police physician stated that a post-mortem study will determine the precise cause of death.
