MIRANSHAH: At least three people were killed in a US drone strike inside Afghanistan near its border with Pakistan’s North Waziristan Agency, officials in Miranshah said on Thursday.
The drone fired two missiles at a house, reportedly belonging to the militants linked to the Haqqani Network. The house was destroyed in the strike, according to reports from across the border.
North Waziristan’s political administration confirmed that the strike took place inside Afghanistan.
The strike came as Afghanistan witnessed a spike in Taliban attacks in the country, particularly the capital city of Kabul. Last month, Pentagon had stated that a range of tools, including “unilateral steps in areas of divergence” would be employed to contain the militants
