GUJRANWALA: Two women and a boy were killed while several others were injured when the Rawalpindi-bound railcar derailed at the Gondlanwala railway crossing here on Thursday.
The crossing had been closed for traffic due to the ongoing construction work. After the accident, the Rescue 1122 staffers reached the spot and shifted the deceased and injured to the DHQ Hospital. An inquiry has been ordered into the accident.
APP adds: Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has sought an inquiry report into the train accident in Gujranwala City Railway Station within 24 hours.
According to Director Public Relations Dildar Hussain Shah here on Thursday, after the accident, the minister also ordered Iftar arrangement for the passengers of the train.
Giving details, he said a cross of the railcar train from Lahore to Rawalpindi was arranged with Awam Express, which was coming from the opposite side, at the Gujranwala City Railway Station where the driver of the railcar could not control the train and it rolled over a safety hump which was made for avoiding such accidents.
However, he said no train passenger was hurt and but two local people who were sitting on the hump reportedly died.The minister took notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry.
