LAHORE: Three individuals were placed under arrest by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday for their alleged role in harassing a woman in Ichhra Bazaar for donning an Arabic-printed shirt.
Muhammad Nadeem, Adil Sarwar, and Altimash Saqlain were the accused who the Ichhra police brought before the court and requested a 14-day physical remand.
The victim had been tormented by the accused and people had been encouraged to kill her, the investigating officer testified in court. He indicated that in order to finish the investigation and find their collaborators, the suspects had to be in custody.
The accused were placed on physical remand for three days by Judge Arshad Javed, who also ordered the police to bring them back on March 20.
A week after the incident in Ichhra Bazaar, where scores of religiously motivated individuals accused a woman of blasphemy because she was wearing a shirt with an Arabic calligraphy print, the police filed a formal complaint. The woman was threatened to death by the mob. But the woman had been saved by a police team under the command of ASP Sheharbano Naqvi, and she had been taken to a police station.
