After meeting with US doctors who stated that the children were in imminent danger of dying in the upcoming weeks, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for the immediate evacuation of 2,500 children from Gaza for medical care, according to Reuters.
The World Health Organization stated that over 12,000 people were awaiting medical evacuations and hoped that they may be increased during the ceasefire, which started on January 19.
2,500 children are among the patients in urgent need of care, according to Feroze Sidhwa, a trauma surgeon from California who spent March 25–April 8 of last year in Gaza.
Approximately 2,500 children are in imminent danger of passing away in the next weeks. Some are currently dying. Tomorrow, some will perish. Following his discussion with Guterres, Sidhwa informed media that some people will pass away the following day.
He mentioned a 3-year-old boy who had burns on his arm and stated, “Of those 2,500 kids, the vast majority need very simple things done.” According to Sidhwa, the burns had healed, but the scar tissue was gradually obstructing blood flow, putting him at risk of amputation.
Does Donald Trump intend to drive the people of Gaza into neighboring states?
US President Donald Trump’s proposal that Gaza be “cleaned out” and its 2.3 million-person pre-conflict population relocated to Egypt and Jordan has been rejected by both nations, according to Al Jazeera.
In response to a query about whether the surviving residents of Gaza would face immediate or long-term displacement, Trump, who initially proposed the proposal last week, reiterated it Monday aboard Air Force One.
“I would like to get [Palestinians from Gaza] living in an area where they can live without disruption and revolution and violence so much,” Trump reaffirmed.
According to Israeli media, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on the proposal.
Witkoff reportedly urged Netanyahu to eliminate any remaining political barriers that would jeopardize the three phases of the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas earlier this month, according to sources in Israeli media. They also talked about the idea of moving the people of Gaza to Jordan and Egypt.
