According to a press statement from the military’s media wing, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman stated on Wednesday that the Kingdom wished to improve bilateral relations with Pakistan.
The Saudi Arabian crown prince was received by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir and other senior military officials on Wednesday during the latter’s second formal visit to the kingdom, according to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
According to the ISPR, COAS Munir spoke with the Saudi leadership about a variety of topics of shared interest, such as bilateral defense and security cooperation and regional peace and stability.
According to the press release, Prince Salman stated that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have long had close and fraternal ties and that both nations have always supported one another.
COAS Munir expressed gratitude to the Saudi authorities for their kind words and support of Pakistan.
To strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations, the army chief traveled to Saudi Arabia for the first time in his official capacity last year.
Following a call from the Saudi crown prince last week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that “a comprehensive strategic partnership” with Saudi Arabia was being developed.
For a considerable amount of time, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have maintained a complex relationship based on shared Islamic heritage, strategic military collaboration, and common economic interests.
In the past, these relationships have included military cooperation, energy supply, and economic support; Saudi Arabia is one of Pakistan’s main suppliers of both.
Their relationship’s military facets include training, joint exercises, and defense cooperation.
This partnership has developed into strategic relationships over time, demonstrating increased cooperation in counterterrorism operations, regional stability, and political support on global platforms, in addition to more traditional areas of cooperation.
This change represented an expansion of their collaboration to encompass not only military and economic aspects but also interests in regional security and diplomacy.
