QUETTA: On Monday, the committee tasked with looking into the fire that occurred at the Post-Graduate Degree Science College Quetta last month and damaged many classrooms and offices announced that the fire was started by a short circuit.
The provincial education minister, Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani, ordered the formation of the inquiry committee, which was led by Additional Secretary Colleges Jahanzeb Mandokhail.
Presenting the inquiry report and stating that the college record remained safe in the incident were Mr. Mandokhail, Deputy Commissioner Quetta Saad bin Asad, and Science College Principal Muhammad Azmat during a joint press conference.
The report that was turned in to the provincial administration states that on August 31, between two and three in the morning, the college watchman reported the fire to the police.
After receiving the notice, the fire department arrived on the scene in 15 minutes, and by 6:30 am, the fire was under control.
One office was completely demolished, three others were partially damaged, and several classroom doors were set on fire.
Following a comprehensive investigation, the committee determined that a short circuit, specifically generated by a UPS battery and some other equipment in the IT office, was the cause of the incident.
Officers from the police and education departments’ Counter-Terrorism Departments were on the committee. Following an examination of the facts, it was concluded that the vice principal’s office UPS was the cause of the fire.
The study claims that because the watchman was stationed outside the campus, the fire was not discovered right once.
The committee had suggested that the watchman be stationed on college property, according to the deputy commissioner.
It was stated that the college’s renovations will be finished by the end of October.
