KARACHI: Following the Babar Azam-led squad’s six-run defeat to India in the T20 World Cup, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi took a hard stance against the management of the team and declared that “major surgery” was necessary. This was reported by the Press Trust of India news agency on Monday.
Pakistani hitters, chasing a meek 120-run target, used 59 dot balls to be reduced to 113 for 7 on Sunday in New York.
The Pakistani media in New York cited Mohsin as stating, “I thought the team required minor surgery to start winning matches but now it appears that we have to go for major surgery.”
Additionally, Mohsin thought it was time to take a closer look at the players who had been sitting outside the team for a while.
“The manner we lost to the USA and now this loss to India is really disheartening. We must now begin considering players in addition to those who are currently on the club,” he stated.
It was made abundantly evident by Mohsin—who assumed the chairmanship in January and went on to become the government’s interior minister—that the PCB had gone above and beyond to accommodate the players.
Everyone wants to know why the team is not performing. The World Cup continues to play. However, it goes without saying that we will sit down and examine everything.
Pakistan’s only hope for a Super Eight berth currently is to defeat Canada and Ireland handily in addition to hoping that the United States loses to India and Ireland.
Even in that case, the outcome will depend on the net run-rate because both teams will finish with four points apiece.
