KARACHI: On Tuesday, the Pakistan Navy (PN) and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) collaborated to undertake a joint search and rescue operation that resulted in the recovery of the remaining bodies of the four missing fishermen.
Due to poor weather, the 45-person crew of the fishing boat Al-Assad capsized in open waters at Hajmbro Creek on March 5. Thirty-one fisherman were saved. The recovery of the bodies of the 14 missing fishermen marked the end of a search and rescue mission.
According to the navy, the operation got underway in broad waters on March 5th, shortly after the fishermen went missing. In order to find and recover every missing fisherman, PN and PMSA used their ships, speedboats, helicopters, and airplanes in spite of difficult weather.
Of the 14 fishermen who were still listed as missing, 10 of their bodies had been found the day before. The last four fishermen’s bodies were also found in the open sea on Tuesday.
Two bodies were discovered early on Tuesday and recovered, while two more were discovered at noon, according to Kamal Shah of the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum.
