GUJRAT: According to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Gujranwala Zone, 39 individuals have been taken into custody during August 2024, out of the 63 who were initially booked on allegations of human trafficking.
Dawn was informed by a high-ranking FIA official that among the detained suspects were the two suspected human traffickers who were sought for kidnapping their victims in Iran and Bulgaria and holding them hostage.
Six proclaimed offenders are among the suspects, and two of them were apprehended as sought fugitives during the region’s campaign against human trafficking, he continued.
According to him, the August booking suspect defrauded innocent individuals of Rs. 120 million by threatening to deport them overseas.
According to the official, the FIA also found forged passports and travel documents from Pakistan that were used to send individuals to the UK, Spain, Italy, and Greece.
According to him, some thirty individuals were removed from various aircraft at the Sialkot airport in the past several months for using forged documentation.
He claimed that there is now more scrutiny at the airport for the documentation of passengers from the Gujranwala region.

A FIA spokesperson asserted that within the past month, the organization has filed at least 21 cases of electricity theft, detained 190 individuals, and filed 60 case challenges in court.
According to him, based on customer complaints, at least 36 new probes have been opened against Gepco personnel. In addition, over the past month, some cases have resulted in the recovery of Rs. 80 million.
He stated that the FIA Gujranwala Zone has finished over 833 inquiries in August of last year.
