ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain said on Monday that civilian agencies were being strengthened to take charge of tribal areas’ security at the end of Operation Zarb-i-Azb and added that terrorists would not be allowed to regroup.
Talking to soldiers during a visit to South Waziristan, he said that civil administration had been activated and locals were being inducted into Levies force to stop terrorists from regrouping in tribal areas.
The president said that army was fighting a decisive war against terrorists. “Army officers and jawans are rewriting the history of valour and gallantry in the region.”
He said terrorists were out to weaken the country through subversive activities, but their evil design had been foiled by the joint efforts of the government and the army.
About temporarily displaced people, he said they were being compensated and repatriated to their native areas in a dignified manner.
Condemning recent terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr Hussain said militants had no religion and were actually the enemy of humanity.
He said that Operation Zarb-i-Azb had been launched to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the area for good.
Talking about corruption, Mr Hussain said it had retarded development and progress of the country besides negatively impacting the national economy.
Later, the president visited Wana Cadet College. He announced a grant of Rs5 million for the institution.
Col Nadeem Irshad, the principal of college, briefed the president on the curriculum and extra-curricular activities.
The president was informed that there were 333 students enrolled in the college and 70 per cent of them belong to Fata.
Earlier, General Officer Commanding Maj Gen Khalid Javed briefed the president on the security situation in Fata.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and high-ranking officials of civil and military administration accompanied the president.
