KABUL: According to sources, Taliban authorities publicly murdered a murderer who had been found guilty on Monday by firing shots at a sports stadium. This was the third execution to take place in Afghanistan in a few days.
According to a statement from the Supreme Court, the guy, who was found guilty of a knife murder in January 2022, was put to death in northern Sheberghan city on a death warrant that was signed by Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada.
The condemned man, Nazar Muhammad, was named in the statement, which also stated that his case “was examined very thoroughly and repeatedly.”
According to a local provincial official, he was shot five times in front of thousands of spectators at the stadium as well as the victim’s family, which included women and children.
There have been a few executions carried out in line with the Taliban government’s stance since their takeover in August 2021.
In 2022, Akhundzada gave judges the order to completely apply all facets of Islamic law, including the “eye for an eye” penalties known as “qisas.”
Two additional men were executed last week in eastern Ghazni City by several gunshots to the back on death orders that were also signed by Akhundzada. Five executions have now taken place since the Taliban have returned, according to a count.
However, corporal punishments, primarily flogging, have been used frequently to punish crimes such as theft, adultery, and alcohol consumption.
