Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday on Friday said a joint strategy would be devised to foil the “nefarious designs of the RSS and its collaborators in the state.”
He cautioned that attempts of harming the religious and cultural identity of Kashmiris and changing the demography of the region by converting Muslim-majority into a minority were being made under a well planned design.
“All anti-Kashmir plans and conspiracies being attempted against the people of Kashmir would be opposed tooth and nail and could be countered only by showing strong involvement and steadfastness to carry the resistance movement forward,” he said.
Expressing determination that a joint strategy would be devised to counter these designs, he said the resistance leadership would not stay silent but will meet these challenges head on.
In his address before the Friday congregational prayers at the Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, Mirwaiz while appealing people to stay vigilant and guarded against the “anti people” plans of the government said: “Since the day BJP had come to power at New Delhi, their collaborators in Kashmir hand in glove with their patrons were busy working against the interest of the people of Kashmir.”
He said plans of setting up colonies for retired Army men (Sainik colonies), refugees and satellite colonies for Kashmiri Pandits besides an anti Kashmiri Industrial Policy clearly points towards the designs of carrying out a demographic change and the dilution of the disputed nature of Jammu and Kashmir.
Reminding the political parties in power in Jammu Kashmir that they were only meant for providing Sadak, Pani aur Bijli (roads, water and electric supply) and suffice the daily needs of the people, the Mirwaiz cautioned them against harming the peoples’ larger interests and called upon them to come up with a clear-cut policy before the people, who otherwise would give them a hard time.
Terming Kashmiri Pandits an inseparable part of Kashmiri society, he said their return to Valley would be welcomed by one and all but an attempt to divide people by separating them on religious or sectarian basis would be strongly opposed by the Hurriyat.
Paying tributes to Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq, Shaheed-e-Hurriyat Khawaja Abdul Gani Lone, Martyrs of Hawal and all the martyrs of Kashmir’s resistance movement for their sacrifices, the Hurriyat chairman said Shaheed-e-Millat’s martyrdom was a national tragedy in the history of Kashmir.
He said from 1963 to the day of his martyrdom, Shaheed-e-Millat had led the just struggle of Kashmiri people and guided them towards the right path. It was for his great contribution that in the history of entire South Asia, for the first time scores of mourners laid their lives to the bullets of ruthless forces while accompanying the funeral procession of their beloved leader.
After the Friday congregational prayers, as per the programme, a rally led by the Mirwaiz was taken out from Jamia Masjid Srinagar in which people including men, women and youth participated in large numbers.
The rally culminated at Shaheedi Chowk amid pro-Islam, pro-Azadi and ‘Jis Kashmir Ko Khoon Sey Seecha, Woh Kashmir Hamara Hai’ slogans with the hoisting of Jammu Kashmir Awami Majlis-e-Amal flag.
On the occasion, while paying tributes to Shaeed-e-Millat, Shaeed-e-Hurriyat, Martyrs of Hawal and all martyrs of Kashmir, it was resolved that the mission of these martyrs would be taken to its logical conclusion.
Appealing people to observe a complete shutdown across entire Jammu Kashmir on May 21, the Mirwaiz urged them to reach Martyrs Graveyard at Eidgah in large numbers and make the programme a success.
He said if the state government would attempt to abort the programme like it had been doing in the past, it would be their acceptance of defeat.
