KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday ordered the closure of all wine shops across province, Aaj News reported.
According to the reports, SHC heard a petition against illegal wine shops in the province. The bench, while giving the orders of shutdown of wine shops across the province, asked which law allows the wine shops to remain open for the whole year.
Court ordered to shutdown all illegal wine shops. Only 120 wine shops are licensed in Sindh reportedly.
The report also stated that 20,000 people of religious minorities are living in Karachi South district and only 24 shops are running in the area.
Under the Hudood Ordinance the alcohol beverages can be sold to minorities on their festivals and celebratory events only, the court remarked.
The court ordered the government of Sindh to present its report regarding the progress in closure of wine shops in the province within two days.
