DERA MURAD JAMALI / QUETTA: On Tuesday, highways and populated areas in Jhal Magsi, Ziarat, and other parts of Balochistan were destroyed by flash floods brought on by intense rainfall.
In Sibi, hundreds of people have lost their homes due to overflowing rivers and seasonal streams that breached protective dykes.
There have been reports of similar devastation in the districts of Bolan and Kachhi.
Hours of intense rain in the Ziarat Valley caused the Kawas and Zindra dams to collapse. The spillways of both dams opened as the water level rose, submerging large portions of Zindra town in Ziarat.
Numerous mud homes have sustained significant damage, and several of them have fallen, causing families to seek refuge elsewhere.
The key route connecting Ziarat with Quetta, the province capital, and other places has been devastated by flash floods.
Additionally, the Ziarat district’s main bazaar in the Cheena neighborhood was flooded, causing damage to stores and marketplaces.
Noor Muhammad Dummar, the MPA for the Ziarat-Sanjavi district and the minister of food for Balochistan, verified the damage brought on by the intense rains.
He claimed that the Harnai region had also reported losses.
He continued by saying that the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and local government should start relief and rescue efforts in the affected districts right once and offer the affected people shelters.
Locals in Jhal Magsi were left stranded when roads were devastated by seasonal streams delivering severe floodwaters.
Flooding posed a threat to downstream villages of Jhal Magsi and Gandawah, according to Jhal Magsi Deputy Commissioner Syed Rehmat Ullah Shah, who also mentioned that the region was still getting rain.
All tehsils in Awaran no longer have a land connection to the district headquarters.
