RAWALPINDI: Four distinct incidences of gas cylinder explosions in the garrison city on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of two children and the injuries of nine others.
The first occurrence occurred in Bhabra Bazar when Banaras’s wife, Ms. Reema, lighted a matchstick to switch on the gas stove, causing a gas leak explosion in their home. Consequently, the three-year-old daughter of Banaras, Ayat, and the seven-month-old Arham were caught in the fire and charred alive.
Mother of the departed children, Ms. Reema, 28, suffered 50% burns to her face, hands, feet, arms, and legs. The personnel of Rescue 1122 transported her in critical condition to the Benazir Bhutto Hospital. For a postmortem, the deceased were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital.
In the second incident, which occurred at Tipu Road on Tuesday, a gas leak explosion resulted in the entrapment of five individuals in a fire that spread throughout their home, injuring them.
Intizar, 45, suffered 15% burns as a result. Amreen Intizar, 19, received 20 percent burns; his wife, Ms. Parveen, 45, received 65 percent burns; and his 16-year-old daughter, Abiha, received minor wounds. The 45-year-old Faiz Deen also suffered minor injuries in the fire. The burn patients were moved to the hospital at District Headquarters.
In a related incident, Waqar Ismail’s house near Girja Road caught fire on Tuesday, trapping three individuals inside who later suffered injuries.
As a result, the fire injured Shahzaib Waqar, 18, his daughter Noor Waqar, age three, and Waqar’s wife, Sobia Waqar, age thirty. The District Headquarters Hospital was the new location for the injured.
The workers of Rescue 1122 moved each casualty to a hospital. Anytime a gas leak is noticed, people should contact the emergency services right away, according to a representative for the agency.
