ISLAMABAD – The Finance Ministry has issued a notification for cancelling the secret funds of sixteen ministries.
The notification issued on June 11, 2012 will enable the federal government to save Rs. 6 billion of the national exchequer. The ministries whose secret funds have been abolished are: Foreign Affairs, Interior, Information Technology, Information and Broadcasting. Besides this, secrets funds of Pakistani embassies in the US and Britain have also been cancelled. However, the Defence Ministry and intelligence agencies can use the secret funds which would be audited by the Auditor General of Pakistan.
The Supreme Court in its verdict on May 7, 2013 declared that all organisations under federal ministries would get their secret funds audited.
