MACH: Convicted target killer Saulat Mirza was hanged at Mach Jail early on Tuesday morning, Express Newsreported.
Mirza, who had been convicted of killing Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC)’s managing director Shahid Hamid, his guard and driver, in Karachi, had had his sentence deferred twice before.
Prior to his sentence being carried out early on Tuesday morning, he was inspected by a doctor who gave him a clean bill of health. He was then led out to the gallows and his sentence was hanged under the supervision of a magistrate.
An ambulance was also waiting at the jail to transfer his body to his native Karachi for burial.
Earlier, Mirza’s relatives too met with the death row prisoner, including his brothers and sisters.
Mirza’s execution was stayed on March 19 after he made startling revelations about Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain’s alleged involvement in the murder of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC)’s managing director.
On March 30, Mirza’s execution was stayed for a further 30 days.
On May 8, tThe Sindh High Court on Friday rejected a plea seeking delay in death row prisoner Mirza’s execution.
“There is no cogent reason for re-investing the 18-year-old murder of then managing director of the Karachi Electric Supply Company, Shahid Hamid, for which notorious target killer Saulat Mirza is scheduled to be hanged on May 12.”
His death warrants had been re-issued by an anti-terror court on May 2.
