RIYADH: Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated in most of the Arab States besides United States, United Kingdom and other European countries with religious fervour on completion of the holy month Ramzan, ARY News reported on Sunday.
The day started with Eid prayers in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Palestine and other Middle Eastern countries.
Gatherings were held at Masjid al-Haram and Masjid-e-Nabvi. King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and crown prince Mohammed bin Salman attended the Eid prayers at Masjid al-Haram in the presence of more than two million people.
Japan, Indonesia and Malaysia are among the other Asian countries celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr today.
However, the timing of Eid can vary in different countries depending on the sighting of the new moon, which marks the start of the month in Islam’s lunar calendar.
In Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, the festival of Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday, as the moon was not sighted in the region. At least half a million Australian Muslims are participating in the month-long Ramadan fast that started in the country on May 26 and will end on Sunday, June 25.
