LAHORE: On Wednesday, the Lahore High Court postponed making a decision on a plea filed by independent candidate Advocate Salman Akram Raja, who is supported by the PTI, to file a contempt case against the NA-128 returning officer (RO).
An earlier statement from the petitioner’s attorney claimed that the court had already directed the RO to decide on Raja’s motion in accordance with the law.
He claimed that the RO, however, disregarded the court’s directive and did not even call Raja to explain his position.
According to him, disobeying court orders is considered contempt of the courts and is a crime.
The RO’s noncompliance with the court’s order prompted the lawyers to request that the court hold proceedings for contempt against the RO.
In considering the presence of all applicants, including the petitioner, Justice Najafi had instructed the RO to combine the results of the election held on February 8 in the NA-128.
Mr. Raja had contested Awn Chaudhry’s Istehkam-i-Pakistan party win.
