HYDERABAD: In protest of the killing of nationalist activist and teacher Hidayat Lohar, rights activists held a demonstration on Sunday in front of the local press club.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) as well as Sindh Sujagi Forum organized the demonstration.
Prof. Imdad Chandio, a spokesman of the HRCP, stated that Hidayat Lohar was a political activist and an educated person. He claimed that his family had been calling for his release for the two years that he had been gone since 2015. He continued, saying that he was held for two years eventually being freed.
According to Mr. Chandio, he was now killed in cold blood. He insisted that his family relations were demonstrating in favor of filing a murder complaint. The heirs demanded that the murderers be apprehended. It was a dictatorship, he said, that had grown to frightening dimensions.
According to Prof. Mushtaq Mirani, his murder demonstrated that speaking up for one’s country could result in consequences. He claimed that it would be against the law and the constitution if a FIR for his murder had not been filed.
Mohib Azad Leghari, the leader of the Sindh Sujagi Forum, stated that a formal complaint should be filed over the heirs of Hidayat Lohar. He claimed that nowhere else in the world had the state filed a murder complaint in place of the victim’s heirs. He advised that, in accordance with Article 09 of the constitution, the heirs had the right under the law to file a lawsuit against the designated accused.
The leaders of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (Arisar), Humera Arisar, Abdul Fatah Channa, Inderjeet Lohano, Saleem Jarwar, Ghufrana Arain, Amjad Rind, and others claimed that although a CCTV image of the killers had been found, they had not yet been charged with a crime or taken into custody.
They expressed sorrow that the heirs’ ability to file a formal complaint against the accused was being denied. They alleged that attempts were made to keep the heirs from staging demonstrations.
