SHANGLA: The Bisham police filed a report on Wednesday to the Counterterrorism Department (CTD) in Swat in order to file a formal complaint (FIR) against the unidentified perpetrators of the suicide attack that claimed the lives of six individuals on Tuesday, five of them were Chinese nationals.
Investigators claim that the bus carrying Chinese engineers engaged in a hydroelectric project at Dasu was targeted by a Japanese hatchback automobile that was packed with explosives.
Bisham Police Station station house officer (SHO) Bakht Zahir Khan told Dawn, “We have obtained the close-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage from the bus and are investigating the matter.”
“A silver car that was manufactured by a Japanese carmaker has been confirmed to have been used in the attack,” he added, adding that the car was packed with about nine kg of explosives. According to him, security has been stepped up in Dasu and Bisham’s sensitive locations.
High-level security personnel, including District Police Officer (DPO) Imran Khan, sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs), security personnel, CTD investigative teams, and Wapda security personnel, were positioned at the scene following the attack on Tuesday.
The CTD team took CCTV footage from the second bus in the convoy and gathered evidence from the scene.
Dawn was able to view the footage, which shows the suicide bomber’s vehicle traveling slowly down the Karakoram Highway before to the explosion that happened when the bus was trying to pass it.
The onboard surveillance cameras were destroyed by the blast’s high heat, but authorities were still able to retrieve evidence, such as a cell phone that was likely used by the suicide bomber and pieces of the attack vehicle.
Dawn was informed by DPO Imran Khan that the CTD team “has almost traced the case.”
On the Dasu dam, work has ceased
Under the condition of anonymity, a Dasu Hydropower Project official informed Dawn that Gezhouba Company, whose employees were slain in Tuesday’s attack, had ceased operations at the location and had instructed the Chinese employees to remain at their accommodations until further notice.
In the meantime, Jiang Zaidong, China’s ambassador to Pakistan, paid respects to the dead by holding a minute of mourning and touring a construction camp at the Dasu project. He also spoke with Chinese nationals.
The Chinese workers on the project were given encouragement by Mr. Jiang. He was accompanied on the visit by Sajjad Ghani, the chairman of Wapda.
