LAHORE: A plea against the planned Aurat March in the city was dismissed by the Lahore High Court on Monday.
Azam Ali Butt, a citizen, filed a petition, and Justice Shahid Karim declared that a ruling was reserved.
Through legal representation, the petitioner stated that since 2019, Lahore has hosted the Aurat March, which is ostensibly organized to draw attention to the issues that Pakistani women suffer.
But he said there had been prior reports of inappropriate remarks made by marchers, which were then widely disseminated over social media without any moderation. He begged that these kinds of actions were tearing apart society.
The petitioner claimed that fights had previously broken out between the activists of the JI, who were organizing the “Haya March” on the same day, and the Aurat March participants.
In addition to the public’s worries, he sought the court to prevent the government from authorizing the Aurat March because of the allegedly contentious posters and banners.
