ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, the Prime Minister’s Steering Committee for Gemstones approved many reforms aimed at revitalizing the industry, including the crucial choice to place the sector under the Ministry of Industries.
Stakeholders including federal ministers, secretaries, senior officials, and members of the business sector attended the meeting, which was presided over by Minister for Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan. They went into great depth about the suggested changes for the diamond sector.
As soon as the industry is formally connected to the Ministry of Industries, it will receive official industrial status, according the subcommittee’s recommendations.
During the meeting, Mr. Khan stated, “We are moving forward with the cooperation and integrated efforts of both the government and the private sector to promote the gemstone industry.”
He emphasized that if gemstones and the Ministry of Industries were linked, decisions would be made more quickly and plans would be put into action that would not only advance the industry but also increase investments and foreign exchange profits. He emphasized the gemstone industry’s enormous potential to boost the national economy.
The chairman of the steering group emphasized that the prime minister will be consulted before final permission was granted for the reforms and other related issues pertaining to the gemstone business.
The group also talked about enhancing the platform and infrastructure for the diamond industry. This involves talks with Jamal Khan, the minister of commerce, Rana Tanveer Hussain, the minister of industries, and Musadik Malik, the federal minister for petroleum.
