KARACHI: The Sindh government has extended special powers of Rangers for Karachi division only for the next 30 days while the paramilitary force would no more be able to carry out raids and take 90-day custody of suspects in others five divisions of Sindh.
As far as targeted operation is concerned, Sindh has been divided into two parts. According to a notification by the Sindh government, in Karachi division, Rangers would enjoy policing powers while in others divisions they would not have such authority.
Though previously Rangers had special powers in entire province, the Sindh government informed the federal interior ministry that the paramilitary force has been given powers under anti-terrorism act 1997 for 30 days in Karachi.
