KARACHI: In a massive operation conducted in Rehri Goth of Landhi, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) and Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) broke up a network of water thieves, it was revealed on Sunday.
Officials claim that the paramilitary squad demolished an illegal water hydrant that was masquerading as a reverse osmosis (RO) plant with the aid of large machinery. An oil plant was paying astronomical prices for stolen water valued at billions of rupees.
According to the officials, the two-acre RO plant was recently erected in Rehri Goth. In order to store water, the water thieves dug an underground tank and broke through a KWSC water delivery line.
Additionally, they restored the illegal hydrant from which water was formerly sent to the oil plant via bowsers.
Although the theft had been occurring for years, Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, the chief executive of KWSC, dismantled the illegal hydrants and confiscated all of the machinery last year with the assistance of the paramilitary force.
According to the officials, the RO plant was reestablished there a few days ago, and the water theft network was restored.
According to a KWSC officer, the operation did not result in any arrests.
