ISLAMABAD: Both of the HBL Pakistan Super League matches scheduled for the Pindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday are in danger of being canceled due to the forecast of heavy rain in the twin towns of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
The ongoing rain prevented any practice sessions from taking place at the Islamabad Club Cricket Ground on Friday, which was scheduled to precede the matches between the home team Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators and Babar Azam’s Peshawar Zalmi against the two-time defending champion Lahore Qalandars.
An official from the Pakistan Cricket Board told Dawn, “There are reports of heavy rain for Saturday, so it seems there is a prospect of a washout… lets see what happens.”
The official stated that the organizers would make every effort to get a result if the rain stopped and the field permitted matches to be played for the lowest amount of time. “However, there is little chance of the weather improving,” he continued.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department had previously predicted rain and thunderstorms for the period of February 29 to March 2 in a number of locations, including Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
The T20 league games on Saturday were the first to be played in Pindi, where United and Zalmi have traditionally had strong fan support. There are further seven scheduled matches in Pindi following the doubleheader, with Karachi hosting the finals.
