MUZAFFARGARH: Shopkeeper accused of stealing a bundle of fabric from his shop in a market at Shah Jamal town, about 20 km away, was detained by police after he beat a woman in public.
A police official said that on Tuesday, suspect Fahad—who owns a fabric store in Shah Jamal town’s market—pounced on a woman and gave her a severe beating in front of the public.
The woman was crying, and the suspect asked that he leave her, warning the onlookers not to help her.
The woman, according to the shopkeeper, stole a bundle of cloth from his store a few days ago and vanished. He also claimed to have reported the woman to the local police.
Witnesses state that a police squad detained the shopkeeper after learning about the incident, but they later freed him. Nevertheless, the police detained the shopkeeper once more after a social media user posted a video of the torture episode.
According to a police spokesman, District Police Officer Syed Hasnain Haider gave the order to arrest the suspect after becoming aware of the occurrence.
According to him, the Pakistan Penal Code’s (PPC) sections 292 and 354 have also been used to file a case against the suspect .
