LAHORE: Former cricketer Ramiz Raja on Tuesday said that the significance of the Pakistan Super League final in Lahore was not merely about the cricket; rather it was a statement that Pakistan is safe.
During a discussion on Geo News’ program Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath, Ramiz Raja emphasised that the final in Lahore was an event against terrorism.
Responding to the ridicule from the derogatory words of Imran Khan, the former cricketer said that Imran Khan should recognise the small steps being taken for the return of international cricket in Pakistan, instead of making such remarks.
Earlier, the PTI chief called the foreign players “phateechar” roughly translated as “useless” adding that he does not even know their names.
In a comment which has been criticised for being racist, he said, “They just picked them from Africa.”
The PSL Final on Sunday held under tight security drew Pakistan together in a rare show of unity. Even leaders from parties opposing the government like Jamat-e-Islami chief Siraj-ul-Haq and Awami Muslim League chief Sheik Rasheed attended the final.
However, Imran Khan after initially calling the decision to hold the PSL final in Lahore “stupid” boycotted it.
