NANTES: Leaders Paris St-Germain defeated Nantes 1-0 thanks to goals from Kylian Mbappe and Lucas Hernandez in the second half, extending their winning streak in Ligue 1 to 17 games.
With a 1-0 loss at Olympique Lyonnais on Friday, Luis Enrique’s team now leads second-place OGC Nice by 14 points with 53 points.
“The players’ attitude was excellent despite the challenging first half,” the Spaniard told reporters. “We were more aggressive in the box in the second half, and although it was challenging, we were lucky to score the first goal.”
In the 60th minute, Hernandez gave PSG their first attempt on goal when he struck from a distance that Moussa Sissoko of Nantes deflected into the top corner and past his goalie.
In the 78th minute, Mbappe, a substitute, extended the advantage from the penalty spot. This goal, his 21st league goal of the season, cemented Mbappe’s standing as Ligue 1’s top scorer.
Luis Enrique said, “The league is not settled. It is obvious that we lack a rival that challenges us, but it is the outcome of our performance. “There remain a lot of tournaments to play; we can’t say anything until it is technically certain.”
In other news, Lille defeated Le Havre 3-0 behind a hat-trick from Jonathan David to take third position, a point behind Nice.
The Canadian international has scored nine goals in his last ten games to bring his total to 11 goals after a sluggish start to the season.
