ISLAMABAD: Under the dissolved Public Works Department (PWD), the federal government has decided to expedite the transfer of ongoing development projects to the provinces, with a one-week deadline for provinces to fulfill procedures.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal presided over a meeting on Tuesday and said that although the projects were being moved to the provinces, the funding provided to them under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) will stay in place.
Within a week, he asked provinces to provide the names of the ministries in charge of projects that would be transferred to the Planning Division.
It was decided that as soon as feasible, the PSDP projects would be turned over to the provincial governments, allowing uninterrupted project development.
The Capital Development Authority and the pertinent ministries will also get the ongoing PWD projects in the federal capital. He noted that the PWD’s ongoing initiatives are being moved to new institutions rather than being discontinued.
In this sense, Balochistan has finished its work, and in a week, the other provinces ought to follow suit with comprehensive information.
These projects will be split up into districts for a quick and easy transfer. The deputy commissioner in charge of each district will serve as the focal point, working with the PWD and other pertinent departments to execute all agreements at random over the course of four to five days.
