Imad Wasim, a cricket player, announced on Saturday that he was returning to his retirement from international cricket and that he would be eligible for the next T20 World Cup.
In November of last year, Wasim declared his retirement from international cricket.
“I am happy to announce that, following my meeting with PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) officials, I have reconsidered my retirement and am delighted to declare my availability for Pakistan cricket in T20i format leading up to the ICC T20i World Cup 2024,” he wrote in a post on social networking platform X today.
Thanking the PCB for “reposing trust in me,” he said he will do everything in his power to honor his nation. First and foremost, Pakistan!
Wasim played for Pakistan in 55 ODIs and 66 T20Is after making his debut on the international scene against Zimbabwe in May 2015. Throughout his international career, he amassed 1,472 runs and claimed 109 wickets.
Wasim was a member of the Islamabad United team that advanced to the HBL Pakistan Super League championship game on Monday night. He took five wickets in the final, and he had already delivered three consecutive match-winning performances for United with the bat and the ball.
Wasim’s retirement was a hot topic; in fact, Shadab Khan, the captain of Islamabad and Pakistan’s best all-round player, had publicly expressed his desire for Wasim to return before the World Cup.
Wasim, 35, had expressed that he thought he had a few more years of cricket left in him, but he had been reticent about making an international comeback.
After the final, Wasim had stated, “I wasn’t feeling it would be my best event tournament but wanted to make an impact but glad it went so well for me.” “I’m trying to give as much as I can, and I think that playing cricket makes me happy. I’m fit. I still have four or five years remaining to play cricket.
The T20 World Cup’s ninth edition takes place from June 1–29. The United States and the West Indies are organizing the expanded 20-team competition together. It will begin on June 1 at Dallas, Texas’s Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium with a match between the US and Canada, who are both participating in their first-ever T20 World Cups.
This Sunday, June 9, is the big match between India and Pakistan at a new stadium 30 miles east of downtown Manhattan. This is one of eight games that will take place at the 34,000-seat modular stadium that is now under construction in Nassau County.
It will be the first time that a significant international cricket event is conducted in the United States. There will be 16 games in all.
The most prestigious cricket ground in the United States, Lauderhill in South Florida, will host matches including Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and India.
Pakistan will begin its preparation for the T20 World Cup on April 18 when they take on New Zealand in five T20I matches in Rawalpindi and Lahore, this time at home.
