Shahzaib Rindh, the champion of Karate, received a cheque for Rs 100 million from President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday at Aiwan-e-Sadr for winning a worldwide tournament.
The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competitor created history last month when he emerged victorious in the Karate Combat Championship (KC-49) in Singapore, becoming the country’s first-ever world champion.
In the championship match, he prevailed over Bruno Roberto De Assis of Brazil, according to Karate Combat, which bills itself as the “premier full contact striking league” worldwide.
The 26-year-old Balochistani made a comment on his victory on X, sharing a photo of himself with the title belt and calling it a “dream come true.”
Many supporters, provincial officials, and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti gave Rindh a rousing welcome at the Quetta airport a few days later.
According to a post on X by the president’s party PPP, the president congratulated the 26-year-old on his recent triumph in Singapore and commended him for improving Pakistan’s reputation in Karate on Wednesday.
On this occasion, CM Bugti was also in attendance.
The president declared, “There is tremendous talent among Pakistan’s youth; opportunities must be provided.”
He continued, saying, “It is important to encourage the youth in the field of sports,” and expressed his hope that Rindh would go on to win more medals for Pakistan in the future.
