ISLAMABAD: The PPP asserted on Sunday that it was able to establish a government in Balochistan, citing assurances from the PML-N that the party would have complete support in the province.
PPP leader Sarfaraz Bugti stated during a news conference that “despite all odds, the PPP will form governance in Balochistan, despite some nationalist parties raising hue and cry over its loss in the polls.”
“We have received a clear message from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz that they will be our allies in Balochistan,” he continued.
Based on the results that have been released thus far, the PML-N and JUI-F have secured 11 seats in the provincial legislature. The PPP has secured 10 seats, the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) has secured 4 seats, and independents have won 6 seats.
According to Mr. Bugti, the PPP will shortly complete Balochistani government formation procedures.
But he added that the PPP had not yet selected a candidate to serve as chief minister.
He stated that although there were concerns, the PPP had accepted the election results “in the largest interest of the country” and that several PPP candidates had also suffered “unexpected defeat” in various areas.
Numerous nationalist groups in Balochistan, such as the Hazara Democratic Party, Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, National Party, and Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), have been holding protests against what they claim is widespread election tampering for the past seven days.
Another PPP leader, Sardar Sarbuland Khan, stated during the news conference that the party would shortly form its government in Balochistan because the people of the province had given the party the go-ahead.
He asserted that it was his own fault that BNP-M President Akhtar Mengal lost the election. “He [Mengal] committed huge corruption in Balochistan while he was in power. He went on, “Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch and Akhtar Mengal should both examine their own actions before criticizing others.
Balochistani voters, according to PPP leader Zahoor Buledi, rejected nationalist parties due to their unfavorable outlook. The PPP will undoubtedly form government in Balochistan, he continued, adding, “We will not allow anyone to reject the people’s mandate given to us.”
Later on, Asif Ali Zardari, the head of the PPP, and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari convened at Zardari House to discuss Balochistan.
Leaders of the PPP and its supporters were present during the gathering. Remarkably, neither Mr. Bugti nor BAP chief Sadiq Sanjrani showed up for the meeting.
