RAWALPINDI: Cars and pedestrians have experienced a number of issues as a result of the garrison city’s roads’ sluggish resurfacing.
Prior to the general elections on February 8, the roads, which include Rashid Minhas Road, Asghar Mall Road, and Liaquat Bagh Road, were excavated. There is traffic congestion in the region because to the dug-up road that connects Marir Chowk and Kutchery Chowk.
Additionally, the roadways pollute the air with dust. Before the elections, work on 42 programs totaling Rs2.07 billion was initiated, but it is still unfinished. These development projects were initiated with funds provided by the Municipal Corporation of Rawalpindi. Funds were ample, but the civic body’s incompetence caused the programs to be postponed.
The commuters have voiced their dissatisfaction and said that they are suffering greatly as a result of the relevant authorities’ poor work pace. They recommended that the civic organization finish the project as quickly as feasible. Amjad Malik, a driver at Liaquat Bagh, reported that drivers and consumers encountered various issues while navigating roadways that had been excavated for the past two weeks.
Another driver, Mohammad Khan, claimed that pedestrians and two-wheelers were equally at risk from the uneven roads.
There appeared to be no monitoring system, according to other visitors, and no one was paying attention to public demands. They claimed that if the departments handled the work correctly, it might be finished in two days.
Commuters and pedestrians alike believed that the absence of a municipal authority meant that no one was willing to assist with everyday issues.
Officials from the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) promised that the maintenance and repair work will be finished quickly when contacted. They claimed that the weather and rain caused delays in the construction. They promised that the road construction will be finished in a day or two.
