The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Friday that it will host a one-day international (ODI) triangular series with New Zealand and South Africa in February 2025, after more than two decades.
According to a press release issued today, the breakthrough occurred during a meeting in Dubai between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and his South African and New Zealand equivalents, Lawson Naidoo and Roger Twose, respectively.
“The agenda of the meeting included the ODI Tri-series between Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa, which will be held in Pakistan in February 2025, just before the ICC Champions Trophy,” the statement said, adding that the PCB had last hosted a tri-series in October 2004 with Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
“The tri-series was finalised and welcomed by the host and both the member boards.”
The PCB chairman also invited Twose and Naidoo to visit Pakistan.
Naqvi stated that the tri-series would be a “exciting event” and praised the chiefs of New Zealand and South African cricket for their willingness to participate.
“The PCB is also looking forward to hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 which will be a great pleasure for Pakistan to host the top eight ODI teams on its soil,” the official said.
Next month, a visit of New Zealand
The PCB revealed on Wednesday that New Zealand will also be visiting Pakistan the following month to play a five-match T20 International series in Rawalpindi and Lahore.
The PCB reports that the Blackcaps will play three Twenty20 matches at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on April 18, 20, and 21 after landing in the nation’s capital on April 14. The final two games will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on April 25 and 27.
The start time for all five games is 7 p.m. Pakistan Standard Time.
Tickets for the series will be offered online at pcb.tcs.com.pk and at a few TCS locations.
In just seventeen months, New Zealand will visit Pakistan three times, the third time for the next series. In order to participate in two Tests and three ODIs, they had traveled to Pakistan in December 2022 and January 2023. New Zealand went to Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Karachi in April 2023 to play ten white-ball matches against Pakistanis.
