ISLAMABAD- Pakistan has initiated a housing project for the rehabilitation of war affected homeless people of Northern Province of Sri Lanka.
In this regard, High Commissioner of Pakistan Major Gen. (Retd) Qasim Qureshi handed over a cheque of US $1 million to Sri Lankan Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa in Colombo.
The donation will be utilized by the Sri Lankan government to construct 220 houses for the homeless people in the villages of Puthukkudiyiruppu, Narikkadu and Moddaikadai in Mannar district.
The high commissioner said that Pakistan and Sri Lanka enjoy excellent relations which were being strengthened by exchange of high-level visits and strong support extended by both sides to each other at the regional and international forums. Qasim Qureshi assured that Pakistan would continue to extend all possible support to Sri Lanka in future.
